Good idea, bad implementation.

Nice idea, but the play wasn't smooth at all. Holding down an arrow should make the player move smoothly, not jump one tiny notch over until the character repeat has a chance to kick in. That alone made this game frustrating and nearly impossible.

Also, I, too, never saw one five.

A background and some more sound effects would've helped this dismal game out a bit more, too.

Much room for improvement

Good game premise, and it's quite playable and fun. However, all of that playability and enjoyment is ruined by several key annoyances that could have made this a huge improvement over the original.

Checkpoints would have been really nice; dying and having to start over at the very beginning got frustrating really quickly and ultimately made me lose interest in this game. Also, as others have mentioned, often the balls would start off directly above me and fall on me as soon as the level started, leaving no chance to get out of the way. The music got annoying quickly; I know it's quite old-school to have the same music playing incessantly during a game, but it got obnoxious fast. New power-ups would've been nice, too.

All in all, it's a fine remake, but that's all it is: just another remake.

So:

Graphics: 7. Not bad.
Style: 3. Could have been so much better.
Sound: 3. Annoying and repetitive.
Violence: 1. Should be 7 for the number of times my character needlessly died.
Interactivity: 7. Would have been 10 but some elements were out of control of the player.
Humour: 0. NA.

Overall: 4. This was more of an exercise in frustration than anything else. But, I hope you'll improve on this concept and make something new out of it. There is so much potential for this game, and I really think you could do much better things with it.

Terrible.

I didn't care much for this one. There are already too many bad flash in the portal; an instruction guide on how to make more seems somewhat pointless. Also, the jokes weren't funny, and the flash was too short.

The huge irony here is that bad flash often involves the use of a watermarked trial version of an off-brand software package -- and rarely involves the use of audio compression. By example, then, this demonstrates *exactly* how to make a bad flash. However, this point could have been made without such a tremendous waste of bandwidth.

So:
Graphics: 2. They were terrible. I realise that was intentional, but still... terrible.
Style: 0. None whatsoever.
Sound: 3. The choices of songs were ruined by the fact that they only played for a few seconds before the terrible "example" flash, and compression wasn't used.
Violence: 0. NA.
Interactivity: 8. Definitely an effort there.
Humour: 0. I didn't find this funny at all. I'm sorry.

Overall: 2. If this had to be done at all, it could have been done much, much better.

Frenzy responds:

Lol, it's a joke flash!

Nice.

It's only a 9 because it's not finished. Otherwise, this is awesome.

At first, I figured this would be easy, like most shitty "find dakslfjdlksfj" submissions, but this was a big exception! Great photoshopping job on each of the scenes... I really had to hunt for Bedn on a few of them! You obviously put quite a bit of effort into this, and even though it apparently seems to have pissed you off in the process, I think you did a good job.

So, yes, I'd like you to finish this, if you feel up to it, but either way, thanks for a great game, and a great way to spend a half hour.

5/5, 9/10 because it ain't done.

Wow!

This is awesome. I've been hoping someone would undertake this for quite a while now, and I'm pleased to see you've finally taken the plunge. Great job!

I especially like the ability to adjust the settings. That's something that a static stereoscopic image doesn't offer, and it really helps those who might otherwise have trouble seeing the image.

I hope you'll take this to the next step and make a full stereoscopic movie. I'd love to see it done in this format, with the separate images on either side combining to make the full film in the middle. If done well, this could be amazing!

Good luck!

ArtBIT responds:

Well, I'm not going to make a whole stereoscopic movie! lol
...but I AM working on a 3D modeling engine, so you could make your own object to view...
I'll upload it here when I finish it...

I'm glad you've enjoyed this .swf :)

Unplayable, but nice looking.

The idea, although nothing new, is decent, and it's a pretty enough game, but the controls are way too slow -- to the point where it's really unplayable for more than a minute. It's impossible to move the crab from the right side to the left side and actually catch that beach ball.

Also, the claw doesn't seem to have to actually touch the ball to get it to pop; more than once, I was able to pop a ball when it had already started its bounce.

The explosions look a little cheap, but otherwise, the graphics are decent.

It's a good start, but I think it needs some work. I'd definitely play an improved version, though.

Okay, but small.

It's okay, but there are very few options on this soundboard. You said you split it up due to file size, but the file size of this portion is only 141K! That's really small. Surely you could put all three into one file.

Otherwise, it's alright, but with only a few choices of sounds, this was kind of boring.

0celot responds:

141k?!?!? My computer said 14mb.1. LOL. Must have read it wrong :P So i guess number 2 will have it all in

Great game with a couple of problems.

First, the good. This is a fun, addicting, unique game with great graphics and playability. I really liked having the ability to configure my character, and the unlockable levels were also a really nice touch. Makes me want to go back and play again so I can get through the whole thing.

But, the camera speed was a *huge* shortcoming; not being able to see where my character was made it annoying to play even the easier levels. Often, by the time the camera would catch up with my character, he would have jumped another level up, and by the time the camera would catch up again, he'd already be falling down -- nowhere near the bits I was aiming for in the first place. Very frustrating.

Otherwise, this is great, and I hope you'll fix that camera thing so I can go back and play the rest of it.

ChromeShark responds:

Hi and thanks for the review. Camera panning - big headache in production. I'll carry on tweaking it to see if I can get it any better.

Not bad...

It's a pretty fun game, and I actually would've played it for a lot longer and rated it much higher if it hadn't been for one glitch: after my green box would catch a star, another red ball would spawn -- and many times, it would appear on top of my green box, killing me! I actually never was able to die fairly; the red balls appearing on top of me took all of my lives all four times I played this game.

Otherwise, it's an awesome game, and I'd love to be able to see how long I can survive when there are 20 red balls on the screen, so I hope you'll fix that glitch.

Graphics: 6. Nothing too special, but they get the job done.
Style: 8. It's fun and addictive.
Sound: 7. Again, nothing special, but decent.
Violence and Humour: None of either, but none was necessary.
Interactivity: 10. It's entirely interactive.
Overall: 6. I took off two, maybe even three points for that glitch, because it kind of made the game unplayable. This should've been an easy 8.

Nice job!

This is a great soundboard! It's laid out in an easy-to-use fashion, the sounds are good quality, and there's a great selection. My only suggestion would be to make all of the pages accessible with buttons at the top, so instead of hitting "next" to scroll through the pages, I could just hit "greetings" or "questions" and be taken right to the page with those on it. Not that I'd ever need to change pages quickly for phone calls or anything... honest. :)

Otherwise, this is great work, and you got my 5 vote. Can't wait to see what's up next!

wizardman responds:

Thanks. Sorting everything out into it's own page wold be a pretty nice idea, but it's be hard to make a prank call with that since you'd have to keep jumping around over and over. That's for the review though, glad you liked it. I"ll keep your idea in mine though.

WHAT.
